Here, I continue with Google option

Click Continue to proceed

Clicking the button will take you to a page where you can sign up for a Rank Math account. However, if you already have an account, simply click the OK, ACTIVATE NOW button to activate it.

Once your account is successfully activated, you will be redirected to the Setup Wizard page.

There are a few steps to follow, so let’s go through them in detail.

The first section is where you see the setup steps. In each step, Rank Math will ask you some basic questions. Based on your answers, Rank Math will configure the SEO settings.

The next section is the mode selection. As you can see, Rank Math supports 3 modes currently.

  • Easy
  • Advanced
  • Custom Mode PRO

Choose Advanced for complete customization and click Start Wizard.

Step #3:Site Settings in RankMath

Choose your Website Type – e.g., Blog, Business Website, Online Store.

Select your Business Type – used to optimize schema data.

Upload:

  • Company Logo
  • Default Social Share Image

Click Save and Continue.

Step #4:Connect to Google Services (Optional but Recommended)

To access Search Console data within WordPress:

Click Connect Google Services.

Log in with your Google account.

Grant permissions to Rank Math.

Here are the requested permissions, one by one.

  • Edit Google Analytics management entities. Again, this is needed if Rank Math sets up your analytics account for you.
  • See and download your Google Analytics data. This one is obviously needed to fetch the data and display it on your website.
  • View and manage Search Console data for your verified sites. Again, this is needed to fetch and display your search console data.
  • Manage the list of sites and domains that you control. This permission is needed to verify your website with Google Search Console automatically.

Click Continue to proceed.

You will be returned to the Setup Wizard, but now you will see these options.

Now, you will be able to configure your Search Console, Analytics, AdSense, and your SEO Email Reports

Search Console

Inside the Search Console section, you need to select your website from the Site drop-down.

Analytics

In the Analytics section, you will select your Account, Property, and Data Stream. If you’ve used Google Analytics, this should be familiar.

If this is a new site and you haven’t installed Google Analytics yet, you can use the toggle option to let Rank Math do it for you.

AdSense pro

The AdSense data module is available only for Rank Math PRO users. If you’re using the PRO version, you’ll be able to select the AdSense account from the drop-down menu.

The last section in this tab is for configuring Email Reports.

Click Save and Continue.

Step #5:Sitemap Settings in RankMath

Rank Math can automatically generate a sitemap for your website:

  • Ensure Sitemaps Enabled is toggled ON.
  • You can choose whether to include:
    • Posts
    • Pages
    • Categories
    • Tags

Click Save and Continue.

Step #6:SEO Tweaks in RankMath

These settings are important for technical SEO:

  • Noindex Empty Category and Tag Archives – Recommended: ON
  • Nofollow External Links – Optional
  • Open External Links in New Tab/Window – Recommended: ON

Click Save and Continue.

After the basic setup, Rank Math displays “Your Site is Ready”

Though this is just a confirmation page, and it does not contain any settings

With Rank Math’s Auto Update feature, you’ll always stay up-to-date with the latest version and the best features.

Now, let us click the Setup Advanced Options to start configuring advanced options.

Step #7:Explore Advanced Options (Optional but Recommended)

1. Role Manager

This lets you control what SEO features different WordPress user roles can access.

  • Enable Role Manager if you have multiple users on your site.
  • Example: Allow authors to edit SEO settings on their own posts, but not global settings.
  • Here are all the roles you will see the permissions for.
  • Administrator
  • Editor
  • Author
  • Contributor
  • Subscriber
  • Customer

2. 404 Monitor

This tool helps you identify broken links (404 errors) on your site.

  • Enable it to track 404 pages your visitors or bots try to access.
  • Useful for fixing broken URLs and improving user experience.

3. Redirections

Redirect old or broken URLs to the correct pages to preserve SEO value.

  • Automatically or manually create 301, 302, or 307 redirects.
  • Great for fixing 404s detected by the 404 Monitor.

Once you’ve configured these options, click “Save and Continue”

4. Enable Schema Markup

Schema Markup helps search engines better understand your content and display rich snippets—like star ratings, product prices, and FAQs—in search results. Rank Math makes it easy to enable and configure Schema.

Once you’re ready, click the Save and Continue button to finish the setup and return to the dashboard.

Step #8:Verify Your Website with Google Search Console (Using HTML File Upload)

This step is optional if you already connected to Google services in Step #4.

Include it only if you didn’t connect earlier or want to verify manually.

To ensure your site is indexed and monitored by Google, it’s important to verify it in Google Search Console.

Steps to Verify Using HTML File:

  1. Go to Google Search Console.
  2. Click “Start Now” and sign in with your Google account.
  3. Choose URL Prefix (recommended if you’re verifying only one version of your site, like https://yoursite.com).
  4. Select the “HTML file upload” option.
  5. Download the HTML verification file provided by Google.
  6. Open your hosting control panel (like cPanel) and go to File Manager.
  7. Navigate to the public_html directory.
  8. Upload the downloaded HTML file exactly as provided, without renaming it.
  9. Go back to Google Search Console and click “Verify”.
  10. If everything is correct, you’ll see a Success message.

Done! Your website is now verified in Google Search Console

Conclusion:

You’ve now fully configured Rank Math SEO — from installation to advanced features. This setup will help your site rank better, load faster, and provide enhanced visibility across Google and social platforms.
